Welcome to Edinburgh - Scotland's capital

Edinburgh, capital of Scotland, has a glorious setting with unexpected views of the sea and hills wherever you happen to be, and a skyline dominated by the great rock on which the castle stands. From here, the medieval Old Town runs down to the Palace of Holyrood House, and through the heart of the Old Town runs the Royal Mile, lined with historic buildings, such as the Outlook Tower, the tall tenement of Gladstone’s Land, Lady Stair’s House and a number of excellent museums.

Edinburgh’s second main area is the Georgian New Town, a place of elegant squares and terraces built for the city’s merchants in the late 18th century. There is a third town as well: the districts of grand Victorian houses. Always fascinating to visit, Edinburgh becomes a riot of theatre and music, on and off the streets, during the International Festival in August

The Edinburgh Academy

The Edinburgh Academy is an independent school which was opened in 1824. The school is located on the edge of the Georgian 'New Town' area of Edinburgh and thus enjoys a central location, about 10 mintues from the city centre on the frequent bus service. Bus passes are provided.
