Welcome to Cambridge - a city of Learning

Situated in the heart of the city, the Cambridge Summer School benefits from classroom and facilities at CATS College Cambridge and specialist fine art, photographic, video, textiles, ceramics and drama rehearsal studios at Cambridge School of Visual & Performing Arts.

The courses in Cambridge are specially designed to offer a different approach to learning, whether to improve English, prepare for academic studies in English, or to pursue a creative passion.

Learning a specialist interest in a creative and safe environment can activate vocabulary and language skills more effectively than purely classroom-centred teaching. Mixing with native English speakers in Art and Drama classes (where appropriate) can also offer an active and participative dimension to language learning.

Academic & Creative opportunities

Cambridge is one of the world’s great centres of learning. The university was founded in the 13th century and has become a major academic research centre. University departments such as the Judge Institute of Management – a leading centre of Business and Economics studies, the Scott Polar Research Institute and the Cavendish Laboratory have all advanced world knowledge.

Cambridge also offers many opportunities for the creative arts. There is an annual summer Shakespeare Festival and Cambridge Film Festival; Cambridge Arts Theatre, the ADC, the Junction and Cambridge Drama Centre offer a variety of programmes. Museums and galleries range from the traditional Fitzwilliam, with its newly constructed arts wing – an architectural feature in its own right, to the beautiful Kettle's Yard, home of a local artist and collector, which has developed as one of the city's treasures.
